Description |
A small lapel pin (this model with twist back closure) was given as an award to a masonic brother upon reaching 50 years of active membership. This generation of pins is just slightly smaller than the earliest pins. This award was first conceived during the 123rd year Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in the state of Indiana, held in Indianapolis on May 28 and 29 of 1940. A description of the lapel pin is included (several options were listed and the third listed option was chosen): "A winged hourglass in gold" surrounding the winged hour glass the words in gold on blue enamel: "Indiana Grand Lodge Award" the lower segment of the circle blue enamel reading " 50 years a mason". The whole surrounded by a laurel wreath. In 1940 the grand lodge was said to be ordering 1000 and by the 1941 proceedings had given out over 500. See the printed proceedings from 1940 and 1941 for more information |
