Description |
The Collection includes 29 physical photographs involving the Indiana Masonic with subjects including Lottie, a house mother, children both identified and unidentified, and photographs of the buildings. Included in this collection is also a flash drive containing jpeg scans of additional photographs and a newspaper article titled "Former Indiana Masonic Home Children Relish the Bond They Share" from March 25-26, 1995. "21 original pictures of unidentified people "22 miscellaneous labeled pictures on a flash drive that I scanned from my sister in law who is not quite ready to give up her originals. I know you asked for 600 dpi or greater, but that request came in after I had already scanned. So I am not sure if they are 300, 600, or 900 dpi. I know 300 is the default setting but I did not check before I scanned. "12 originals of William Edwin Hobson including his graduation picture in 1927, and band pictures where he played the clarinet; after leaving the Home, he graduated from Butler U 1932. Ed was born 1 Jan 1910 in KY and died 25 Dec 1984 in Santa Barbara California. With his batch of pictures, I am including the obituary of W. Jack Orr who entered the Home in 1921, graduating in 1929. I believe based on the Sonnet that Ed wrote in memory of him (that I also included), that Jack might be one of the younger men in the picture of 4 clarinet players. "Mary Pauline Hobson is identified in the various pictures on the flash drive She lived 15 Feb 1912 in Hartford City, Indiana and died 9 October 1998 in Baldwin County, AL even though the Indiana death records show her death in Indiana where she was buried. I have enclosed 3 originals that include Pauline (she later changed the spelling of her name to Paulyne, so you might see it spelled differently in places) along with other names of her friends at the Home "Also on the flash drive you will see a few pictures of Wilda Elaine Hobson known as Billie. She too was born in Hartford City butin 1914 and died 1 Aug 1965 in San Rafael, Marin, California "The last child of Lottie Keen Hobson was John Lynn Hobson born 2 Aug 1916 in Hartford City, and died 27 May 1992 in Nokomis, FL. There are a few pictures of him on the flash drive. "one single picture labeled Gladden from Masonic Home - not sure who he is but we did not recognize our family members. There is also a list Paulyne made in June 20, 1987, perhaps at a reunion with 17 names but we are not sure which picture they match. "3 original pictures of the buildings, one labeled Sept 23 1922 and 2 group pictures - not sure who they are "4 original pictures of Lottie Keene Sapp at the home. She was born 24 March 1891 in Spurlington, KY, marrying John Lee Hobson also of Spurlington; they lived in Hartford City where he died in 1918 after which his 4 children and widow went to the Masonic Home. She then went to work in Bloomington as a housekeeper for the Dean of IU. Lottie then married John Raley in 1933 and moved back to Ky where she died in 1970. I would think that Lottie (some records show Charlotte, some Charles) was at the home about 1920 after the children were placed there. We are still piecing together that information. |
